Welcome to Laughter Therapy, a website hosted by Bethanie Schmoeller, M.S., L.M.F.T.
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and a certified Laughter Wellness Teacher, dedicated to providing psychotherapy as you laugh your way to well-being, mindfulness and joyful mental health one positive thought at a time.
Ask yourself:
Then laughter therapy is for you. Sound IMPOSSIBLE? You say "I am depressed and anxious. Isn't therapy supposed to be sad?" I say therapy is serious and your suffering is real....it's not something to laugh at...and positive psychology can explore the triggers to your challenges by finding and focusing on the positive.

Ask yourself:
- Are you tired of feeling sad, lonely, rundown, irritable or angry?
- Do you want to fill your life with positive energy, laughter and joy?
- Ready to let go and rise like the break of dawn?

Laughter is TherapyLaughter is universal. It is evolutionary. It started when a caveman pulled a rock out from underneath his buddy as he sat down. It also happens to be a wonderful alternative to traditional psycho-therapies. Science has shown that laughter increases production of feel good chemicals in our bodies, can lower levels of stress hormones, increase immunity and much more.

If you have no tragedy, you have no comedy. Crying and laughing are the same emotion. If you laugh too hard, you cry. And vice versa.

Fill Your Life With Laughter:
Lift your spirits instantly with this simple self-meditation trick: close your eyes, smile and recall an image of your favorite funny movie, cartoon or comedian. Think about why it was funny. Run through the scene, cartoon gag or lines from stand up. Repeat it out loud or to yourself, whichever your situation dictates. Stay with it. You will laugh. Perhaps uncontrollably with the result your mood will almost always be uplifted.
